Perplexity launches 'Source Insights' panel — merchants can now see how AI cites their products

Perplexity AI launched "Source Insights," a merchant-facing dashboard that reveals how the engine cites ecommerce product pages in shopping answers. Available initially to verified merchants in the US, UK, and Germany, the panel shows citation frequency, triggering queries, and contributing schema fields per URL.

Key features of Source Insights

The dashboard surfaces three data points that previously required manual Perplexity probing: (1) which of your product pages appear in AI answers, (2) what shopper queries triggered those citations, and (3) which structured data fields (Product, Offer, AggregateRating) contributed to each inclusion. Merchants can filter by time range and export citation data for GEO reporting.

Why this matters for cross-border merchants

Until now, merchants had no visibility into AI citation performance outside of running individual queries manually. A team managing 5,000 SKUs across three markets could not know whether their product data was working in Perplexity answers. Source Insights closes that loop — but only for stores that are already being cited. The dashboard also highlights "citation gaps" — pages that rank for similar terms in traditional search but never surface in Perplexity responses.

Visora angle

Visora's Monitor feature has tracked Perplexity citations since early 2026, and the new Source Insights panel validates what early adopters saw: schema completeness correlates with citation likelihood by roughly 2×. For merchants not yet visible in Perplexity, running a free Visora audit at geovisora.com/audit identifies the specific schema and content gaps that prevent inclusion. Source Insights tells you if you're cited; Visora tells you why you're not — and what to fix first.
