AI assistants quote your specs, not your marketing copy
New analysis of AI shopping assistant answers in Q3 2026 points to a clear pattern: when an assistant quotes a product, it quotes a fact—not a slogan. Across repeated queries for the same items, the cited sentences were overwhelmingly structured claims such as dimensions, materials, compatibility, and stock status, while marketing adjectives appeared far less often and rarely carried the citation on their own.
What the data shows
- Factual product specs made up the large majority of cited passages for “does it fit / will it work” style questions.
- Pages that listed the same fact in both visible text and structured data were cited more consistently than pages that relied on one or the other.
- Pages where the description and the spec table disagreed lost citations to competitors whose facts were internally consistent.
Why this matters now
As assistants move from listing links to synthesizing answers, the unit of competition is no longer the page but the quotable sentence. A merchant with strong branding and weak specs can rank well and still lose the answer, because nothing on the page is clean enough to repeat verbatim.
The Visora perspective
Most stores already have the facts somewhere—they are just trapped in images, tabs, or contradictory fields. Visora's free scan at geovisora.com/audit surfaces pages where an assistant has nothing quotable, so merchants can fix the highest-impact facts first. Descriptions still sell to humans; specs are what get your store into the answer.
