AI assistants now treat your price as a quotable fact — and most catalogs get it wrong
Assistants have quietly begun treating *price* as a first-class quotable fact, and the shift is exposing a weakness most product catalogs share. When a shopper asks what something costs, the assistant no longer hunts for a page about pricing. It looks for one number, tied to one variant, stated in plain text and repeated consistently. Where that number is missing or contradictory, the assistant hedges or answers from a competitor.
Three patterns from merchant catalogs tracked over Q3:
First, price is the single most-asked fact in shopping conversations, ahead of shipping time and returns. It is also the fact merchants update most often, which makes it the most likely to drift out of sync between a product page, a comparison page, and a regional version.
Second, the number of catalogs that publish a *stale* price on a secondary page, a buying guide, or a language variant is high. A single mismatch is enough for the assistant to read the store as uncertain and skip it in favor of one that agrees with itself.
Third, variant-heavy products suffer most. When the real price lives in a selector or a JavaScript widget, the crawlable HTML often shows a placeholder rather than a number, so the page is indexed but never quoted.
The practical reading is that price cleanup is now a recurring maintenance task, not a one-time launch item. Merchants who keep one canonical number per variant, mark it up, and date their promotions are the ones whose prices show up in synthesized answers.
Visora perspective
Price is the fastest citation fix most stores have, because it is almost entirely on-page. A free scan at geovisora.com/audit flags pages that hide or contradict their price facts, so you can fix the highest-impact ones first.
